Design Process
DISCOVERY
For the discovery phases, I've lead countless site visits, including a 12-hour observation of a nursing shift in an ICU, participatory design workshops with strategic clients, and interviews to surface what matters most.to understand user needs and opportunities for delight.
ACTIONABLE INSIGHTS
For large scale or small scale projects, synthesizing research observations cross functionally observations yields actionable insights. I include colleagues from every discipline, teaching them how to unpack and understand human behavior so everyone has a shared understanding of what matters most. Better understanding leads to better decisions for every member of the team.
CONCEPTS
There are many different potential artifacts that can be produced. There are many ways to start designing. My approach is to find the design spark and then feed it so it can blossom. This often starts as sketching, but depending upon the project could start with a high level digital concept.
VALIDATION
This example shows a high fidelity concept that took a couple of hours to make in order to demonstrate a design solution. Concepts are shared with stakeholders, engineers, and users to measure user value, dev lift and product market fit.
ITERATE & EXPERIMENT
Running qualitative and quantitative studies are the inexpensive path to delivering an excellent product. When teams see where users struggle they are motivated to do whatever is needed to build usable products.
